With a spectacular line-up of entertainment, a three-course meal and dancing to a live band, the LJ Hooker Cancer Society Ball promises to be "the Greatest Show”.
But when guests arrive at Claudelands on Saturday 17 August, they won’t just be enjoying the glitz and glamour of the ball – they'll also be making a difference for people affected by cancer in their community.
Proceeds from the ball will help the Cancer Society continue to provide personalised support to people with all types of cancer, raise awareness through education programmes and fund vital cancer research.
“Cancer affects one in three people, so most of us can understand the impact that a cancer diagnosis has on whānau, friends and loved ones,” says Catriona Findlay, fundraising manager for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society.
As a community-funded charity, the Cancer Society relies on the generosity of their supporters by way of grants, donations and fundraising to enable them to continue the work they do.
“Without fundraising events like the ball, we wouldn’t be able to open the door to people affected by cancer. Your support can make all the difference,” says Ms Findlay.
Wherever they are in their cancer journey, the Cancer Society can help Kiwis find the right support –whether it be support through nurse consultations and home visits, information about cancer and treatment, education programmes, support groups, patient advocacy, massage therapy, transport to treatment or counselling.
Generous support and some exciting auction bidding at the 2018 event raised $75,000 to fund these vital services. This year, live auctions items up for grabs include a Ford Ranger double-cab ute, return flights to Europe with Singapore Airlines, a Vespa Primavera and a personalised voicemail message recorded by Steve Hansen.
